Résumé |
Perceiving complex sounds requires the combination of information distributed across different frequency regions. As far as auditory roughness is concerned, several studies have shown that the coherence of the modulations present in the different auditory channels has an influence on the overall percept: coherent modulations yield more roughness than incoherent ones. This effect has been explained either by an inter-channel comparison mechanism, or by destructive interferences within single channels. We studied the addition of tones irregularly amplitude-modulated. The interference between these kind of stimuli is much less destructive than the one observed with the SAM tones formerly studied. The influence of the coherence between modulations was still observed and clearly reflects across-channels comparisons. |
